Daniel Hope & Friends I – Menuhin in London I
Chamber music
Friday 16 July 2021
7.30 pm, Saanen Church
He is one of the “spiritual sons” of the Festival's founder, Yehudi Menuhin, whom he had known since he was a child (when his mother was the Master's secretary and then agent) before he began studying with him. Always faithful to the event, Daniel Hope opens its 65th edition with three concerts “among friends” entirely dedicated to English music. This first evening, almost exclusively devoted to subjects of Her Most Gracious Majesty – violinist Ikki Opitz studied at the Menuhin School in London – is a perfect opportunity to bring back to light some forgotten pages of chamber music: those of Edward Elgar, but also those of his compatriot Rebecca Clarke, a high-flying viola player whose career came to an abrupt end... when she got married!
