Carmen
Opera in concert versions
Saturday, 24 August 2019
7.30 pm, Gstaad Festival Tent
Is it necessary to provide an introduction to Carmen? It is one of the most frequently performed operas in the world, and it is said that it was Herbert von Karajan’s favorite work. It has everything: love, tenderness, drama, imagery, colors… In short, an infinite variety that is captivating even without staging, as is the case here. Better yet: one has an even better opportunity to focus on the countless nuances of the impassioned relationship between Carmen (Gaëlle Arquez) and Don José (Marcelo Alvarez).
From the Habanera «L'oiseau est un oiseau rebelle» to the Seguidilla «Près des remparts de Séville», through the languid «La fleur que tu m'avais jetée»: an avalanche of absolute hits!
