Richard Galliano New York Tango Trio – Trans-Classics IV

7.30 pm, Rougemont Church
Astor Piazzolla is considered the innovator of tango ... and he is rumoured to have once told Richard Galliano: “Immerse yourself in the roots of your French homeland, breathe life into the ‘nouvelle musette’, much like I once created the ‘tango nuevo’!” The young accordion virtuoso took heed of this advice – similar to how Piazzolla once followed the guidance of Nadia Boulanger – and hit the mark precisely. Thanks to Galliano, the French accordion repertoire gradually shook off its dusty slumber in the museum, unveiling entirely new connections to the blues, the sounds of the Brazilian Nordeste, and, of course, the tango. With his latest acoustic programme, “New York Tango Trio”, Richard Galliano pays hommage to Astor Piazzolla, serving as a reminder of an inspiration that has now woven itself into his own artistic identity.
