Chamber Music

Sunday, 20 August 2023
6 pm, Saanen Church

This third concert in the “Music for the Planet” cycle, carried by Patricia Kopatchinskaja and her partners of the Camerata Bern, offers three levels of reading: that of the immemorial times when Christ pronounced these famous “Seven Last Words” on the Cross; that of their setting to music (“purely instrumental“) by Joseph Haydn at the end of the 18th century; and that of their resonance at the beginning of the 21st century, accompanied by the words and images of a videographer, shedding a new light on the issue of climate change. A triple recollection for a single, strong message: a message of humility in faith in the face of spirits and elements that are beyond us.

Change of cast
Due to illness, Patricia Kopatchinskaja unfortunately has to cancel her upcoming concerts. We wish her a speedy recovery! Her participation at the concert on 20th August with the Camerata Bern in Saanen Church is affected by the cancellations. As the audiovisual performance is an ensemble piece without solo parts, the concert “The Seven Last Words” will take place. It was developed by Patricia Kopatchinskaja in cooperation with the Camerata Bern and video artist René Lieber. The performance will take place unchanged, led instead by the leaders of the ensemble. The projections (photographs and texts, curated by René Liebert) will remain an essential part of the program. If you no longer wish to attend the concert, tickets will be refunded.
