(II/II) It takes artists of the highest calibre to tackle a challenge of this magnitude: the Internationale Bachakademie in Stuttgart is at the heart of the great interpretation tradition of the St Thomas cantor. Founded in 1981 by Helmuth Rilling, this prestigious institution has, among other things, released a massive 172-CD set of Bach's complete works to mark the 250^th anniversary of the musician's death. Directed since 2013 by Hans-Christoph Rademann, it continues its quest for beauty and “truth”, taking care not to lock the great Johann Sebastian in a glass tower, regularly commissioning contemporary artists so that his art continues to resonate in the present.
