10.30 am, Gstaad Chapel
The Hamburg pianist Anton Gerzenberg, who won the Géza Anda Competition in Zurich in 2021 and is currently training with Pierre-Laurent Aimard in Cologne, will be coming to Gstaad with two masterpieces of his instrument's repertoire. In addition to the famous 24 Preludes, which Chopin completed in 1839 during his eventful stay in the Carthusian monastery of Valldemosa on the island of Mallorca and which were dedicated to his friend, the piano maker Camille Pleyel, he will also be playing one of the highlights of Impressionist literature: Maurice Ravel's Miroirs. Scores in which the French master evokes the images and moods created by the eyes of five characters looking at themselves in a mirror, with this quotation from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar as a preliminary meditation: “And since you know you cannot see yourself / So well as by reflection, I, your glass, / Will modestly discover to yourself / That of yourself which you yet know not of.”
