1940, Görlitz, Province of Silesia. Thousands of prisoners were taken to Stalag VIII A. Among them, Olivier Messiaen and several musicians. Months went by. The German officer in charge of the camp put a hut at the disposal of the French composer so that he could write in peace. Thus came to be one of the 20th century’s masterpieces: the Quartet for the End of Time.
Symbol of his unerring faith, this unique work depicts, according to his own words, the perfection of that moment «when Time would no longer exist, when Time would join Eternity», suggested by the Apocalypse of St John the Apostle from which it draws its roots.
