Is it necessary to introduce Anne-Sophie Mutter? A prodigy and student of Aida Stucki in Winterthur and supported early by conductor Herbert von Karajan, she is considered one of the greatest violinists of our time. She comes to Gstaad to perform an exceptional concert with her long-time partner, pianist Lambert Orkis, with whom she released the now legendary recordings of Beethoven’s complete violin sonatas in 1998. The concert that she has prepared reflects her artistic ideals: decidedly eclectic, as manifested by the presence of Sebastian Currier’s “Clockwork” on the programme, a contemporary composer whose music she champions enthusiastically. In the same manner that she has brought the spotlight onto compositions (often composed at her request) by composers such as André Previn, Norbert Moret, Wolfgang Rihm, Sofia Gubaïdulina, Henri Dutilleux and Krzysztof Penderecki.
