7.30 pm, Lauenen Church
It’s always a delightful treat to experience the Chiaroscuro Quartet in Gstaad ... artists carrying forward the Menuhin legacy and loyal guests of our Festival! This year, the ensemble collaborates with Kristian Bezuidenhout on the fortepiano for their concert in the cozy Lauenen Church. Amidst wooden-paneled walls, we can look forward to Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12 (originally performed “a quattro”, meaning with quartet accompaniment at the time of its creation) and the “Dissonance Quartet” by the Salzburg genius. The nickname unfolds right in the opening bars: in a departure from all “classical” conventions, a C (played by the cello), an A-flat (on the viola), an E-flat (on the second violin), and an A (on the first violin) gently layer upon each other during the slow introduction.
