Recital Bruce Liu
Chamber Music
Thursday, 27 July 2023
7.30 pm, Saanen Church
He caused a sensation last summer with a spectacular Bach-Chopin-Ravel-Liszt recital. Winner of the prestigious Warsaw International Chopin Competition in 2021, Bruce Liu is back with a new, dazzling programme that not only features the indispensable Chopin: Besides Beethoven’s monumental “Waldstein”, Liu opens his programme with some pieces (originally composed for harpsichord) by the revolutionary Jean-Philippe Rameau. The programme is finally completed with Variations by the much too unknown Russian composer Nikolai Kapustin. Kapustin was trained in Moscow by the great Alexander Goldenweiser and became a cornerstone of the modern Russian piano school during his career. He was known for being an outstanding personality of great classical virtuosity, but his jazz improvisation was just as legendary. Kapustin died in Moscow in 2020.
