They had planned to perform the complete works in 2020: the worldwide pandemic decided otherwise. After a first episode narrowly saved during this unprecedented summer, Sol Gabetta and Alexander Melnikov are happy to bring the final touch to their “Beethoven marathon” by presenting two new sets of variations and the two remaining sonatas, characteristic of very distinct creative periods: the legacy of Classicism (or even Baroque) for Sonata No. 2, the innovative impulse born in Heiligenstadt and developed during the first two decades of the 19th century for Sonata No. 4, dedicated to the Countess (and confidante) Marie Erdödy.
