For many years now, the Croation-born but naturalised as an Austrian citizen pianist has shown unfailing loyalty to the Festival. In this Viennese year, Dejan Lazić is performing a multicoloured journey through the former Habsburg empire, with “hits” such as Beethoven's “Moonlight Sonata”, and rarer works such as this “home-made” arrangement of Hirt auf dem Felsen or this Rhapsody in the Istrian style of his own composition, an invitation to discover the melodic wealth of this Adriatic peninsula with its turbulent history, now divided between Croatia (for the most part) and Slovenia.
