L'Adieu à Vienne – Gstaad Festival Orchestra I
Orchestral Concert
Saturday, 6 August 2022
7.30 pm, Saanen Church
December 1790. Almost seventy years old, Joseph Haydn embarked on the wildest adventure of his life: twenty concerts in London, and as many first auditions – a “gamble” that was to be the source of the greatest symphonic outpouring of his life, of which the “Miracle” Symphony was the first stone. His departure from Vienna left its mark on people's minds, starting with Mozart's, who feared he would never see his “dear papa” again: a separation made all the more painful by the fact that the public was increasingly turning its back on him, forcing him to seek recognition in Prague, where his Don Giovanni and his Nozze di Figaro were enthusiastically acclaimed – a generosity of heart that was well worth ... a symphony!
