«When I'm 64»: Nigel Kennedy, who was born in Brighton on 28 December 1956, 64 years ago, couldn't have chosen a more appropriate title for his 2021 summer tour! A lovely paradox: it was one of the first songs written by Paul McCartney, on the family piano at 20 Forthlin Road when the Beatle member was only fifteen or sixteen years old; he would later explain that in addition to the “snapping” sound of the word “sixty-four”, he wanted to gift it to his father as a prelude to his retirement! Kennedy, whose debt to Yehudi Menuhin is undeniable, is here as a “friend of the family”: classical or electro strings, there are countless “legendary” concerts of his that are engraved in gold lettering in the memoirs of the Festival.
