1«Himmlische Längen» – Faust, Gabetta & Chamayou
Chamber music
Thursday 5 August 2021
6 pm / 8.30 pm, Saanen Church
Robert Schumann saw “himmlische Längen” – “celestial lengths” – in it and it is true that there is something timeless, suspended, in Schubert's Trio, Op. 100, especially in its central Andante con moto and its haunting rhythm in a minor key hammered out by the piano, which became widely known in 1975 thanks to Stanley Kubrick's film “Barry Lyndon”. Did you know that Schubert borrowed the theme from a traditional Swedish song, “Se solen sjunker” – “Watch the sun go down”? An exhortation that we will gladly follow, especially if this sun indeed points, as here, to three exceptional “magi”: violinist Isabelle Faust, cellist Sol Gabetta and pianist Bertrand Chamayou.
The concert by Isabelle Faust, Sol Gabetta and Bertrand Chamayou will be broadcast live from 8.30 pm on gstaaddigitalfestival.ch.
