Myung-Whun Chung & Yuja Wang
Symphony Concert
Friday, 6 September 2019
7.30 pm, Gstaad Festival Tent
It takes an exceptional pianist to master Rachmaninov’s Third, true Everest of piano literature: Yuja Wang is one of these. And she can count on the very best partners to back her in this evening: Myung-Whun Chung and the Dresden Staatskapelle, one of the oldest orchestras in the world – it will celebrate, in 2048, its… 500th anniversary! Placed on their music stands for the second part of the evening: Brahms' Second Symphony, possibly the most joyful of the four of them, with its majestic introduction, languid adagio, graceful scherzo and whirling finale – a symphony that is occasionally compared to Beethoven’s “Pastorale”.
