Born in Saint Petersburg in 1994 in a family of musicians, Dmitry Smirnov studied with Elena Zaitseva and Anastasia Milka at the Rimski-Korsakov Conservatory, and later at the Lausanne University of Music with Pavel Vernikov. He is currently enrolled at the Music Academy Basel, where he is a Student of Rainer Schmidt. Winner of many international competitions (1st Prize Moscow International David Oistrakh Competition 2006, 2nd Prize Menuhin Competition 2008 in Cardiff, 1st Prize Sion Tibor Varga International Competition 2015, 3rd Prize Paris Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition 2018), he has already performed in the most prestigious venues, such as the Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London and Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow. He was a member of the Gstaad Festival Orchestra in 2017.
