They are a veritable institution, an icon in England, where the perfection of choral music, whether sacred or profane, has been cultivated for centuries. Fourteen students from throughout the country are accepted at the prestigious King’s College of Cambridge each year. At the end of the 1960’s six choral scholars from these select students founded the King’s Singers. Six students, six friends, permanently immersed in the individual and group practice of song, decided one morning to place their talents in the service of a repertoire that was more representative of their pastimes, their ages and their time, in short, a repertoire that might be characterized as a bit more “fun”. The group has evolved since then, but the recipe as well as their success has remained the same; more than 150 recordings testify to their immense repertoire. Following “Horizon” in 2012 and “Black Humor” in 2015, they are back in 2018 with their “Gold Standards” to celebrate worthily a half century on stage.
