“Alle Schweizer können jodeln” – Soloists and Conductors from Around the World
GALA Orchestral Concert
Thursday, 2 August 2018
7.30 pm, Saanen Church
“All the Swiss know how to yodel”: that’s what young Felix Mendelssohn wrote during his first voyage in Switzerland in 1822 to his professor Carl Zelter. One year later he composed his ninth string symphony and entitled its Trio “Switzerland”. And for good reason! This movement was based on a typical yodel that he had brought back with him. The programme of this concert, led by young, talented artists participating in the Gstaad Conducting Academy, also includes concertos by Hummel and Beethoven featuring two rising stars on the international scene: Italian pianist Beatrice Rana (2nd prize at the Van Cliburn Competition 2013) and French trumpet player Lucienne Renaudin Vary (winner at the Victoires de la musique 2017).
