Sacred Pomp – Magnificat & Coronation Mass
GALA Choral & Orchestral Concert
Friday, 28 July 2017
7.30 pm, Saanen Church
Following his remarkable Requiem by Verdi in 2011, Enoch zu Guttenberg is back in Saanen with his Klangverwaltung Munich to perform a lavish programme that harmonizes perfectly with the themes of this year’s festival. At first Bach’s glowing Magnificat, dating from his first years in Leipzig, and then Mozart’s Coronation Mass, written for Salzburg in 1779. The luminous music by the young genius (he was 23) contrasts sharply with the profound desperation that he felt at the time (he detested his patron Colloredo); many monarchs would choose it for their coronation, seduced by its beauty.
